Did You Know?
Choking
Choking happens when an object (typically food) gets stuck in our throat, blocking the airflow to our lungs. Small children are the most common victims of choking, usually on food or small toys they can fit into their mouths. Mild blockages are easy to clear with a few coughs, but larger objects will be harder to remove. If left unmanaged, the victim may lose consciousness. First aid for choking is five back blows alternate with five abdominal thusts until the object is dislodged. If choking continues after three cycles, call an ambulance or bring victim to the hospital.
